Taking over gas and electricity when moving

With every new letting, tenant and landlord together complete an acquisition document for both electricity and gas. Greet from Thuismakelaar.be is happy to provide this document for you.

What should I fill in on the takeover document?

  1. EAN and meter numbers
  2. Meter reading and energy company
  3. Signatures of both tenant and landlord, including takeover date

Note: This document is not a connection to an energy company.
As a tenant, you must provide your own details to your chosen energy company (such as Luminus, Engie, Eneco, etc.) by phone or online.

What insurance should I take out when renting my property?

Every tenant is required to take out fire insurance, combined with contents insurance and third-party liability insurance.

At the start of the lease, the landlord will request proof of these insurances.
Our service officer Nancy will ask each tenant for proof of payment/renewal of third-party liability insurance during her annual visit.

How do I terminate my lease?

As a tenant, you can always terminate your lease by sending a registered letter to the landlord. The correct contact details can be found in your tenancy agreement.

The termination will take effect on the first day of the month following the day on which the registered letter was sent, with three months' notice.

Example: If you send the notice letter on 17-02-2022, the notice period starts on 01-03-2022 and ends on 31-05-2022.

When the landlord terminates the lease, he must follow the applicable legislation.
